Dear friends of innovation,
You are kindly invited to join us at the ERRIN Mind Forum on 18 November 2009 at VLEVA (Liaison Agency Flanders Europe), Kortenberglaan 71, B-1000 Brussels.
Navigating beyond Lisbon – the regions on course to economic recovery and the knowledge economy!
Europe’s economy is slowly coming out of troubled waters and what some have described as ‘a perfect storm’. However, it will not be enough for its leaders to simply determine Europe’s present position and patch the sails. There is a clear need to readjust its navigational instruments.
The current debate on the EU’s post-Lisbon economic strategy is about steering towards sustainable growth, a clean and green economy, long-term competitiveness and prosperity and sustaining the European way of life for generations to come. This is the perfect opportunity for ERRIN, the European Regions Research and Innovation Network, to initiate a debate on the right course towards full economic recovery and competitive regions fit for the knowledge economy.
Our speakers:
Danuta Hübner, Member of European Parliament, Chair of Regional Development Committee
Ziga Turk, Secretary General, Reflection Group on the Future of Europe
Gerard De Graaf, Head of Unit, Strategic Objective Prosperity, European Commission, Secretariat General
Mike Tremblay, Innovation, Research and Technology Advisor, London/Toronto
Mikel Landabaso, Head of Unit, Thematic coordination and innovation, European Commission, DG REGIO
Jean David Malo, Head of Unit, Regions of knowledge and research potential, European Commission, DG RTD
Andrew Davies, Head of Unit, Innovation and Competitiveness, Regional Competitiveness and Governance Division, OECD
Plus, speakers from ERRIN member regions, who will present regional flagship strategies and projects
The conference is open to non-ERRIN members.
However, due to limitations of space we will have to limit participation to head of office/unit and officer level and equivalent.
To register please send an email to communication@errin.eu, subject space: “ERRIN MIND FORUM”, until 6 Nov. 2009.

ERRIN calls for increased public support for R&D to combat Climate Change
The Copenhagen Climate change conference is only a few weeks away.
Meanwhile the climate change clock keeps ticking and we need action on the ground.
It is clear that technology will play an important role in meeting the challenges and public support is essential to catalyze technology development and innovation. To that end we welcome the European Commission proposal for COP 15 to double low-carbon research and development by 2012, and quadruple it by 2020.
ERRIN, the European Regions Research and Innovation Network, has produced a statement to emphasize the role of regions in creating research and innovation friendly environments and provides examples of excellence within the regions in delivering on low-carbon technologies.
Please download ERRIN's policy statement, which we hope, will be of interest to you. Help us spread and amplify this message!

Meeting report: INTERREG IVB Central Europe Brokerage event, 20 October 2009
Organised and hosted by Veneto, ERRIN held its third INTERREG IVB Brokerage event on 20 October, this time focusing on the Central Europe Programme. ERRIN members learned about strategies for successful project applications discussing with the Italian National Contact Point of the Central Europe Programme. While we are still waiting for the results of the second call there are still certain programme opportunities and gaps in terms of projects submitted, which we may want to address by developing projects for the third call, in addition to the excellent project ideas that were presented at the event. Our ideas for an INTERREG project development and arbitrage platform, possibly within the Innovation Funding group (to be discussed next Monday at the IF meeting) got further nourishment. Such a platform could help to analyse opportunities with regard to project development for different programme zones (e.g. what's already funded, what's not, i.e. where are gaps, what is funded in other programmes, that could be transferred to the transnational context, etc.) and assist in developing projects and building consortia. Further brokerage events are planned for the MED and the Baltic Sea Area (to be confirmed). Presentations of the speakers and two Project Idea Forms are available online in the Innovation Funding Working Group Section.
