More trust, more data, better health: How does Europe grasp the innovation opportunity?

Harnessing data to improve health is a key objective for governments, research, industry and society. In healthcare, huge advances are being made, from use of genomic sequencing to support precision medicine to better patient information shared across clinical settings. Technologies such as Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence are accelerating the promise to be fulfilled.  The European Union’s DSM and Health agendas are addressing areas to work towards this common goal, improve the free flow of health data, allowing patients to access and transfer health records across the EU and improve cross-European research for societal benefits. To examine whether enough is being done and what challenges may still lie ahead of us, Microsoft is organising a one-year roadshow, to be launched at the European Parliament at a kick-off event hosted by Seán Kelly MEP on 7 November 2017 18:00-20:00. The event will be moderated by Robert Madelin (Chairman of Fipra International and former Director-General of DG SANTE and DG CONNECT) and will include introductory presentations followed by an in-depth discussion with the audience over a sit-down dinner. Other speakers will include: Martin Seychell (Deputy Director-General at DG SANTE) Luisa Avedano (CEO, EFCCA) Sylvie Bove (CEO, EIT Health) - tbc.  As well as the use of data for health, topics will include the broader use of data (whether personal or not) for better lives and public goods, and the over-arching concepts of data donation and data philanthropy. Please find attached the draft programme of the event.
