ERRIN firmly believes on cohesion policy for all regions. This is why ERRIN has joined the Cohesion Alliance, a coalition of stakeholders for a strong and efficient cohesion policy in the future. The alliance has been launched by the Committee of Regions (CoR) ahead of the presentation of the proposal for the EU budget post-2020, asking for a stronger, more effective, and visible cohesion policy that is available for every region in the European Union. Currently worth one third of the EU budget, the EU's cohesion policy reduces regional disparities, creates jobs, opens new business opportunities and addresses major global issues such as climate change and migration. Smart specialisation will play an important role in the future cohesion policy and can be a useful instrument – and uniting force - between cohesion policy and research and innovation policy.
