Webinar on Collaborative Platforms to enable Participatory Budgeting initiatives

The EIP-SCC Marketplace Action Cluster ‘Citizen Focus’ is pleased to invite you to the first and opening webinar of our 2017-2018 series, taking place online on 6th December 2017 from 12:30 to 14:30 p.m.  The webinar is organised in the framework of the Inclusive Smart Cities Manifesto, an open call for endorsement launched on 23 November 2016 and addressing European cities willing to implement concrete actions to allow for an active and full participation of citizens during each step of the Smart City Planning. The first webinar will present and discuss the use of platforms in Participatory Budgeting (PB). Participatory Budgeting is a form of participatory and inclusive democracy where members of a community learn, debate and deliberate about the allocation of public resources. It has proven to be a powerful tool enabling citizens to contribute to the administration of their city granting them an active role in decision making. Since the launch in Brazil during the ‘90s, European examples of PB increased from 55 to over 1.300 with over 8 million citizens actively involved in PB. PB Platforms can be considered as a subset of the larger category of collaborative platforms for social innovations developed and diffused during the last years. Throughout this session we will be specifically focusing on platforms and tools purposefully designed for the management of PB processes. Practical cases will be presented, as outlined in the attached Draft Agenda. Should you be interested in knowing more about the use of platforms in Participatory Budgeting processes, register here to the webinar.
