ERRIN calls for further support to Regional Innovation Ecosystems in Horizon Europe

Following our dialogue with the European Commission on the role of regional innovation ecosystems in the Horizon Europe proposal, ERRIN is now continuing to raise this issue within the European Parliament. ERRIN suggested a few changes to the draft report published by MEP Christian Ehler and Dan Nica on the next framework programme for research and innovation. In general, we were fairly pleased with several amendment proposals that already highlight the need to increase coherence between research and innovation priorities and funding between European, national and regional levels. Nevertheless, there are still a couple of points that are important to complete the already tabled amendments. Namely, Including the concept of regional innovation ecosystems in the definitions and mainstream it throughout the proposal; Ensuring that the European Innovation Ecosystems under Pillar III also consider regional “placed based” innovation ecosystems as an important mean to promote innovation close to citizen and their needs and help those ecosystems to connect to access complementary skills, infrastructure, and markets.
