European urban train stations are one of the centers of gravity of the daily city life, with a key economic and societal role. However, these critical infrastructures are facing a major challenge: increasing variety of threats linked to a growing role of transport interconnections and intermodality. To address this challenge, there is a need for railway security stakeholders at European level to join efforts to identify and implement innovative solutions that could dramatically improve the security of the train stations and their users.
Currently, security agents as well as a lot of devices either deployed in the stations or in the trains are collecting a large amount of real time data. However, the security potential of this data is clearly underexploited. This is mainly due to the lack of connections between the different sources of information and an insufficient coordination between the responders.
Within this framework, the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is willing to lead of partnerships of public buyers and practitioners so as to launch a joint Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) to answer to this need.
In particular, the project will aim at building a shared network that collects relevant security data from all security information sources available in the station and which access is available to all first responders in real time. This approach is expected to drastically increase the rapidity and the quality of first responders’ interventions.
The objective of the project is to associate practitioner organizations and buyers in order to deploy, in real environment and based on the common needs defined by the partners, 2 prototypes in European urban train stations.
