Towards a research agenda for the EU Mission on Climate-neutral and Smart Cities

Researchers who have actively worked with Pilot Cities or Mission Cities within the frame of the EU Mission on 100 Climate-neutral and Smart Cities by 2030, are invited to join a collaborative event geared towards advancing research on the Cities Mission. The event is taking place on 25 June 2024 in Valencia, Spain, in connection to the Cities Mission Conference.

The event aims to develop and foster a robust network of universities and research institutions actively engaged in this endeavour, while allowing the participants to learn more about the NetZeroCities project and the Mission Cities and potentially develop shared research outputs. The event will bring together universities, thought leaders, and diverse EU networks and associations to explore a variety of perspectives, advanced research, and case studies that support the acceleration of research on the climate transition.

OBJECTIVES

  • Encourage enhanced involvement of universities and research institutions, encompassing a spectrum of perspectives, in the implementation of Pilot projects and Mission Cities' climate objectives at all levels;
  • Coordinate and explore various approaches, actors, domains, and emerging dynamics to drive the implementation of the Cities Mission;
  • Analyse case studies from across Europe showcasing innovative research methods aimed at accelerating the climate transition;
  • Organise joint scientific publication opportunities;
  • Gain a deeper and shared understanding of the NetZeroCities project.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?

  • Universities and research institutions involved in the NetZeroCities Pilot Cities and Mission Cities, with a focus on maximising their contribution to the Cities Mission;
  • EU associations and networks of universities focused on expanding research partnerships to support both Pilot Cities and Mission Cities.

More information and the agenda can be found in the attachment. Register for the event by 5 April on this link.
