The main themes of the Smart Specialisation Working Group are:
- Current political and policy debate on clear concept, methodology and scale of RIS3;
- Increasing attention on synergies between regional innovation and development policies and financial instruments;
- Continued renewed interest on the role of clusters and thematic platforms as enablers of S3.
According to these themes the Working Group aims of monitoring and contributing to key policy developments related to S3 by enhancing dialogue with relevant stakeholders – such as DG Regio, Mirror Group, S3 Platform and its S3 Thematic Platforms, Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platforms, European Parliament and Committee of the Regions – with the goal of strengthening the regional perspective in the wider smart specialisation agenda; and providing support and visibility to working group members through the regional snapshot and acting as support basis for other ERRIN thematic working groups – such as Policy and Innovation & Investment – on S3-related issues.
